Best way for a beginner to practice Spanish between lessons?

I have been taking Spanish through a famous teaching system for a month now and I’m doing pretty well, I think, but the problem I have is little opportunity to practice between lessons. When I try to watch TV or listen to radio I’m blown away by the speed and advanced vocabulary and I can’t keep up. Can anyone suggest the best things an early beginner can read or watch or listen to in order to help strengthen his skills? Maybe a popular children’s website or something?
